EnviRights – Empowering eNVIronmental RIGHTS defenders through monitoring, capacity building and advocacy in Europe

Purpose

Strengthen the effective protection of the rights to freedom of expression, assembly, and association (Articles 11 and 12 of the EU Charter) for environmental activists, with a particular focus on young people.

Specific objectives

  • Create and test a transnational system for monitoring violations of the rights of environmental activists;
  • Enhance activists’ resilience, communication, and legal protection capacities;
  • Promote awareness and training for media, policymakers, and public officials;
  • Foster a multi-stakeholder dialogue to support the effectiveness of these rights and counter the shrinking of civic space.

Main Outputs

  • Mapping of environmental associations and movements
  • creation of a methodology and a platform for monitoring the rights of environmental activists
  • development of a training program;
  • drafting of a manual of recommendations for policymakers;
  • and a transnational communication and advocacy campaign
