Comprehensible Law: Legal Education for Environmentally-minded Civil Society

Project objective

The law can be quite complex. In the environmental sector in particular, regulations are spread across a wide range of different laws, German law is often superseded by European law, and it feels like things are constantly changing. At the same time, however, a basic understanding of environmental law is a prerequisite for successful engagement in environmental protection. You need to know what rules exist in order to know whether they are being complied with or violated. At the same time, it is important to know your own rights to information, participation, and legal protection—whether as a private individual or as a member of an environmental NGO.

In the project “Comprehensible Law: Legal Education for Environmentally-minded Civil Society,” we provide information on various aspects of environmental law. The aim is to promote the enforcement of democratically adopted environmental law. We want to strengthen the capacities of environmentally-minded civil society to work effectively towards the implementation of existing environmental law. Part of this project includes free environmental law consultations and the provision of information material on topics such as climate law, greenwashing, and criminal law relating to the environment.

Environmental law advice sessions

How it works

We offer office hours six times a month at fixed times. Anyone interested can book an appointment via our website. During the appointment, you can discuss environmental law issues with our staff. These may include questions about nature conservation or climate protection, legal protection against pollutants or noise, or opportunities to participate in environment-related proceedings. It helps us to better prepare the consultation if you let us know your questions in advance.

The purpose of the advice session is to answer general questions about environmental regulations and standards. It is not intended to provide advice in specific cases and is no substitute for a lawyer’s advice. We do not review documents or provide assistance with wording. We do not advise on issues that are not specifically related to environmental law, such as tenancy law, labor law, or family law.
