Roda Verheyen, our founder and board member at Green Legal Impact, is receiving this year’s German Environmental Award — Germany’s highest environmental honor.
A well-deserved honor for Roda’s decades of dedication, as well as her strength and wisdom in advancing environmental and climate protection!
We at Green Legal Impact are proud and grateful to draw inspiration from Roda and to collaborate with her on a regular basis. This award recognizes not only Roda’s outstanding legal work, but also her ability to shape and advance public debate.
Commenting on receiving the German Environment Prize, Dr. Roda Verheyen said:
“I feel honoured and encouraged. This award is not only a recognition of my work, but of everyone committed to environmental and climate protection. It demonstrates that courts have an important role to play in determining whether laws are ambitious enough to protect human rights and whether climate protection laws are ultimately being upheld and enforced. The award gives me renewed motivation to continue this work, not only in the field of climate protection, but also in nature conservation. So far, we have not talked nearly enough about this issue, even though the loss of biodiversity has consequences that are just as serious as those of climate change.”
The awards ceremony will take place on October 25 in Aachen. We’ll be there to share this special moment with her.
